Today is so boring.
This painting alludes to human desperation. It hints of murder, cannibalism and inexplicable hardship aboard a tight dingy filled with “survivors” from a shipwreck. And they’re all climbing on top of each other trying to signal a ship in the distance to rescue them. The painting was inspired by historic events. It caused quite a controversy in France at the time.
I’ve always thought of this painting as a commentary on what can lead people to commit the most debased and cruel acts. But one must not also forget that Theodore Gericault opted to portray the event in a moment where in the survivors, probably for the first time in two weeks, found hope upon sighting ship at a distance.
AND THEY RE-MAKE IT WITH CYBERMEN. STEEL CLAD EMOTIONLESS CYBERMEN. WHAT.
